Running in the family…

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

Imagine my surprise when I came across the phenomenal work of one Mr. Moofus via Lost at E Minor only to discover that not only is he Eleven and a half years old, but he is also the offspring of JW's very own talented Kate Banazi. Luckily I got in quick on the action and the paperwork is already in motion...

Attention Sydneysiders

Geographic restrictions keeping you from checking out Lamington Drive? For those of you lucky enough to be in Sydney, there are two great shows on at the moment worth checking out.

First in Sydney, we have The Throw Shapes fundraiser for Heaps Decent, featuring EAMO and WBYK amongst stacks of other great talent.

For some more JW action, be sure to check out James Hancock, Justin Lee Williams, and yes, WBYK, over at Palmer Projects for 20/20/20, featuring 20 artists for prints in editions of 20, for a bargain price, of yes, 20 bucks.

Inspiration Roundup, August 26

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

Thanks for everyone who braved the rain to make it to the Lamington Drive opening on Thursday. It was a truly special evening with a great turnout. Dont forget to give your beer feedback as well!

For those of you who missed out, remember the gallery is open Tues–Friday from 11-6 and Saturday from 12-5.

While we gather our wits, here are some great links to keep you going in the meantime.

Are you a member of the AOI yet? No? Why not? The results of the 2008 Illustrators Survey are now up. Check it out here!

Couldn't make the trip to ICON5 last month? Fear not. Scamp has you covered with podcasts featuring the word of god himself, Steven Heller. Listen Now!

While exploring illustrator Q. Cassetti's marvellous site (via drawn), I couldn't help but download and read his thesis 'In Search of a Personal Style'. Required reading indeed. Download it for yourself here.

In JW related news, our own Pandas (No, not these pandas...) have just given some good interview over at The Design Files.

More soon!

Jacky Winter Winners

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Some congratulations are in order! First up, The inaugural Design NSW: Travelling Scholarship has been awarded to none other than recent JW artist, Matt Huynh! The sholarship is a new award presented by the Powerhouse Museum and British Council with Arts NSW, and will see Matt get a tidy sum to go to the UK to extend and expand his current Comic and Graphic Novel practice. Read all about it here. Good stuff!

The next tip of the hat goes to Mr. Rik Lee, for picking up a shiny silver medal in the olympics of T-shirt designs at the recent Graniph Design Award. Yay! For the record, we're not quite sure what Peace, Love, Rabbit Foot means either.

More soon!

Get out of the house!

Next up, JW artist Justin Lee Williams is having a show of new works along with fellow artist Andrew Gordon at the expansive No Vacancy in the CBD.

Finally, over at Kick Gallery in Northcote, you can catch JW artist Cailan Burns alongside JW favoruites Isobel Knowles, Jeremy Dower, and more for the group show, 'While you were sleeping'
